Manchester Championship Show 2018 (No DH CC's) Critique

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge and to the stewards for their expert and attentive assistance. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for their entry especially on such a dreich winter's day.

JD (3, 1)

1 Peach's Tiobraid Solo Venture To Kilbourne. Fifteen months old, dark grey, good bone, well muscled with no exaggeration. I liked his head with ears nicely positioned, a dark eye and a masculine air. A good powerful neck, pleasing top line, body of good length and shapely croup. Good movement both in profile and coming and going: a promising youngster.

2 Metselaar-Williams' Kaleginy Eldrigg At Grendel. Ten months old, still puppyish and a little smaller than first, as expected at this age, but shown in good condition. A lovely shaped head with good ears and a dark eye. In profile had a super outline with a nice deep chest, a good return of upper arm and well laid shoulder with hindquarters suitably balanced. Not quite the length of body as first and still a little unsettled on the move.

PGD (4)

1 Peach's Kilbourne Lloyd. Eighteen month old dark dog and good harsh coat. Super head, dark eyed with dark pigmentation of the rims. Well angulated front and rear with a good length of body and shapely top line. Plenty of bone and generally well muscled, especially the loin and second thigh. Moved with good reach in profile and was true coming and going. RBD.

2 Smith's Hyndsight Timespace At Julam. Twenty month old, lighter coloured than 1 and shown in full coat. A beautiful head, ears well set on and with a dark eye. Neck of good length and strength.  Forequarters well angulated with good straight legs and nicely sloped pasterns. Good depth of chest, a pleasing top line and shapely croup with a correctly placed tail, nice tuck up, well bent stifle and low hocks. Would have preferred a little more length to the body and did not quite have the drive of first when on the move.

3 Wilce Quinton & Quinton's Hindsight Skirl.

OD (4, 1) 1 Cooper's Kilbourne Tyne. Three and a half year old dark grey shown in full coat, well presented and covered a lot of ground when stacked. A beautiful head with a dark eye and a super far away expression. Good reach of neck which was well muscled. Nicely balanced, the shoulders well angulated with matching rear angulation. Good depth of chest, a pleasing topline with a shapely croup and good tuck up with a well placed tail. Legs straight and in proportion and movement was sound and appeared effortless. BOB.

2.Pursglove's Stranwith Roag. Three years and five months old, taller and more substantial than first, light grey and well presented. Masculine head with hazel eyes and good rim pigmentation. Strong neck with plenty of reach but not overlong. Deep chest with well sprung rib, a super top line with no exaggeration flowing into a shapely croup with seamless tail set. Would have liked a little more tuck up. Movement was sound both in profile and coming and going.

3 Morton & Morgan's Cotherstone Cold Steel.

JB (6, 3)

1 Peach's Ormanstar Queen Of Hearts To Kilbourne. Ten month old which covered a lot of ground when stacked, plenty of bone and a dark crisp coat. Beautiful head with super ears, a dark eye and black rims. A strong powerful neck with good reach. Nicely balanced with good upper arm/shoulder placement and the hind quarters showing a nicely bent stifle with plenty of leg length and low set hocks. Still very young and will need to deepen to make up for the overall length. Movement was sound with good reach and plenty of drive. RBB and BP.

2 Akeehurst's Tiobraid One In A Million. Fifteen month old dark grey, well proportioned with good length of body. Lovely head with dark eye and rims. Good reach of neck with plenty of muscle. Good return of upper arm and shoulder well laid back. Nice deep chest, super topline and tuck up, shapely croup with well placed tail set. Super movement both in profile and coming and going. Not as good rear angulation as first but did press hard for top spot.

3 Wilce Quinton & Quinton's Kilbourne Marie Claire At Kirjojax.

OB (2, 1)

1 Morton, Morgan & Constantine's Islay Mist At Kaleginy TAF. Five year old grey, very shapely with good bone and super proportions. A beautiful head with hazel to dark eye and dark rims; ears were folded perfectly and set on well. Neck was strong and had plenty of reach.  Shoulders well laid with good return of upper arm. Chest deep, body of decent length with a super topline and croup. Hindquarters showed a well bent stifle with low hocks and good leg length. Movement was sound both in profile and coming and going. BB.
